Veterans reach a human on the first ring.

A veteran-focused services nonprofit. Their intake line takes crisis, benefits, and general-services calls — often in the same hour. MetisPro triages every call, answers the routine ones, and gets urgent conversations to a trained counselor within seconds.

The problem

Fast take
  • Counselors were triaging routine benefits questions while veterans in crisis waited on hold.
  • Every call type mixed on one intake line — no way to route by urgency.
  • Burnout rising, care time shrinking, no capacity to add staff.

A benefits question. A housing crisis. A mental-health emergency. A request for a peer navigator. Veterans call the nonprofit's intake line with all of it — and every call matters, and none of them can wait. But the line couldn't tell a routine question from an emergency, so counselors spent their days doing triage: answering benefits questions while a veteran in crisis sat on hold. That's burnout by design.

Leadership wanted the first ring answered every time, every crisis in front of a human counselor in seconds, and every routine call handled without stealing a counselor from care. Humans doing human work — that was the whole brief.

What we built

Fast take
  • Crisis-signal detection layer built with the nonprofit's clinicians before go-live.
  • Crisis calls warm-transfer to a human counselor with live summary in seconds.
  • Routine benefits and program calls handled end-to-end, no counselor pulled off care.

MetisPro was trained on the nonprofit's programs, benefit categories, and service partners — and, critically, a crisis-signal detection layer built with the nonprofit's clinical team. When a caller signals crisis — self-harm language, urgent housing, medical emergency — MetisPro warm-transfers to an on-call counselor with a live conversation summary, in seconds. Routine calls are handled end-to-end, without pulling anyone off care.

Deployment took a few weeks — a little longer than a standard pilot, because we built and validated the crisis-detection ruleset with the nonprofit's clinicians before going live. On a line like this, you don't skip that step.

"The veterans we serve deserve a human on the other end of the line when they're in crisis. MetisPro doesn't replace that human — it makes sure that human is available every single time."

The result

Fast take
  • No missed calls since go-live.
  • Crisis-to-human escalations complete in seconds.
  • Much of counselor time recovered from routine calls — back to care.

No missed calls since go-live. Crisis-to-human escalations complete in seconds. The routine calls that used to eat much of the counselors' day are handled by MetisPro — so their time now goes almost entirely to care. The nonprofit's leadership says it's changed the culture of the intake team: less burnout, more meaningful work, better outcomes for veterans.
